The Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons came up short in their season opener against the Fisk Bulldogs on October 31, 2025, at the neutral site at Stillman College. The Lady Barons lost with a score of 59-56 in favor of Fisk.

In the first quarter, Brewton-Parker's Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn opened the scoring with a crucial layup, setting a strong pace for the game. Andranique Stewart fortified the defense, pulling down multiple rebounds and maintaining pressure. Despite leading by as much as four points during the first half, the quarter ended with the teams tied at 12 apiece.

The second quarter saw both teams trade the lead, with Fisk briefly getting ahead before Brewton-Parker's bench players, including contributions from Nesha Brown, propelled the Lady Barons to regain the lead, ending the first half ahead with a score of 26-25.

The third quarter continued to challenge Brewton-Parker, as Fisk applied tight defense. However, Chasity Degale's playmaking kept the Lady Barons in a competitive position, ending the quarter ahead 39-38.

The final quarter witnessed a resurgence from Fisk, particularly from Jayla Hawkins' accurate shooting, which ultimately took the game away from Brewton-Parker. Despite solid efforts and a close score throughout, Fisk secured the win.

The Lady Barons showed significant potential, with standout performances from Chasity Degale, who scored 12 points and led in assists, and Andranique Stewart, who was dominant with 20 rebounds and 12 points.

Head Coach Steve Edwards shared his thoughts following the game, "I'm always excited at the start of the season, and today is no different. We didn't play particularly well today, but I believe we will improve quickly.

"We were 2-22 from 3 and missed 15 free throws. We also had over 20 turnovers. It's nearly impossible to win shooting that poorly from the field. We are a much better team than we showed tonight. We have another opportunity to play tomorrow, and I'm anticipating a good response from our group."

Looking ahead, the Lady Barons are set to face Stillman College on November 1, 2025, aiming for a strong comeback in this back-to-back schedule.
