Barons Fall to Firehawks in Four Sets
In a hard-fought conference volleyball match on November 1, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons were defeated by the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks at the Curry Athletic Complex in Pulaski, Tenn. The Firehawks claimed a 3-1 victory over the Barons.
The match started competitively, with Tennessee Southern taking the first set narrowly, 25-23. In the second set, Brewton-Parker responded strongly and managed a 25-21 win, leveling the match at 1-1. However, Tennessee Southern showed increasing dominance, securing the third set with a score of 25-16 and wrapping up the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.
Key players for Brewton-Parker included Adriana De Jesus, who led the team with nine kills, and Amme Mobley, close behind with eight kills. Raphaela Felisberto was also notable, contributing seven kills and 12 digs, making a significant impact both offensively and defensively. Defensively, Taylor Lamontagne and Ryann Prince each had a strong presence, adding three blocks to the team's effort. Lamontagne also excelled in serving, delivering three aces alongside her 21 assists.
Head Coach Obed Quiles reflected after the game that, despite their improvement, the team has still struggled to close out sets and needs to improve further.
The Barons, now with a season record of 2-19 and a conference score of 0-14, will look to regroup and face their next challenge against Wesleyan College on November 4, 2025, in Macon, Ga.. The team remains hopeful to improve their standings as the season progresses.
