Brown Men's Rugby Dominates Harvard in Ivy League Opener at Mignone Stadium
In their first Rugby encounter against an Ivy League opponent this season, Brown Men's Rugby delivered a remarkable performance, shutting out the Harvard Crimson with a staggering 78-0 score on September 20, 2024. The match, hosted at Mignone Stadium under cool and windy conditions, saw the Brown team maintain absolute control throughout the game, entering halftime with a commanding 38-0 lead.
Brown's victory was highlighted by a diverse scoring effort. Garett Mann led the charge with four tries, while Santiago Cortabarria added another two. Contributions were also significant from Asa Rosenmeier, St John Smith, Cameron McAlpine, Antonio Esteves, Marco Lapierre, and Tito Edjua. Edjua, a standout as a freshman last season and in his first match this season, showcased a dazzling performance during his 20 minutes on the field, contributing significantly to the team's dynamic attack.
The precision in conversions was expertly handled by Raphael Lansonneur, who successfully executed 9 of 12 conversion attempts, amplifying Brown's lead. Coach David Laflamme praised the team's performance, emphasizing their discipline and assertiveness:
"We preach discipline at the breakdown and defensive assertiveness and both were on display tonight from start to finish. To get to 78 points, 8 different players scored our 12 tries. Of those 8, 4 were forwards and 4 were backs. That really demonstrates how balanced and versatile we are and want to continue to be across all 15 positions."
With this win, Brown improves their season record to 3-0. Looking ahead, they are set to face Iona University on September 28, 2024, at Marvel Field, located at Brown University in Providence, RI.
