KMS Schools Girls' Basketball Team Eyes Another Winning Season Under Coach Justin Johnson

KERKHOVEN, MN - As the 2024-25 girls' basketball season approaches, the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg High School's Fighting Saints are gearing up for another exciting run under the leadership of Head Coach Justin Johnson, who is entering his 7th season. The team, bolstered by a core of returning players and fresh from a triumphant Camden North Champions title, is set to bring competitive play and school spirit back to the KMS High School's gymnasium.
Under Johnson's guidance, the Fighting Saints have achieved a career record of 85-72 and last season's impressive finish of 20 wins against 9 losses. As the coach celebrates the onset of another promising season, he expressed his optimism, stating,
"I am excited to get the season underway. We have a ton of talent and should be very fun to watch."
The team will miss the contributions of last year's seniors Sophia Oerter, Anissa Demuth, Lilly Ronholdt, and Katelynn Marquardt. However, the return of skilled athletes such as Emily Wagner, Madelynn Luft, Emily Zurn, Savannah Petersen, Acelynn Hacker, Leah Wagner, and Mamie Luft promises to fill those gaps effectively.
The Saints' schedule is packed with notable games including the season opener at home against Eden Valley-Watkins on November 25. Other highlights include contests against Central Minnesota Christian and New London-Spicer at KMS High School, as well as challenging away games at Minneota. The season also features special events such as Senior Night on January 28 against Dawson-Boyd, celebrating the achievements and contributions of the team's senior players.
With a mixture of seasoned players and new talent, the Fighting Saints are poised to maintain their status as formidable contenders in the region, aiming to build on last season’s achievements for another successful year.
