Fighting Saints Softball Team Faces Tough Challenge in Season Opener Against Lakers
MURDOCK, April 10, 2025 — The varsity softball team at KMS Schools, dubbed the Fighting Saints, encountered a challenging start to their regular season against the Minnewaska Lakers, concluding with a 12-5 setback at their home field in Murdock.
From the outset, KMS Schools displayed resilience with notable individual performances, despite falling short in their season opener. Abby Holtkamp led the charge with 2 RBIs including a double, sustaining her reputation as a key player for the team. Additionally, contributions came from Taylor Van Heuveln and Kaliyah Walker, each adding an RBI to attempt a turnaround.
Taylor Van Heuveln, starting on the mound, had a day mixed with challenges including six hits and eleven runs allowed but showed prowess with seven strikeouts across the game. The Fighting Saints showcased their batting skills as Emily Wagner went 2-for-4, including a single and a double, and Maddy Silas hit a triple to rally the team.
However, the team's defense lagged, leading to a series of errors that Coach Reimann highlighted in her post-game reflections.
"Great hits to start off, must improve our defense. Too many errors,"
Coach Reimann emphasized, signaling areas for improvement as the Fighting Saints look to bolster their record. With the season still young and many games ahead, KMS Schools aims to refine their gameplay, focusing particularly on reducing errors and strengthening their defensive tactics.
