The CU Women's Club Soccer Black team began the grueling 6 match National Open Championship tournament in Round Rock, TX with a 2-1 victory over Arkansas. Followed by a 2-nil win over Central Michigan and then a decisive 4-1 victory over Arizona to complete pool play undefeated and in 1st place with 9 points. The quarterfinal match put the Buffaloes up against UC Davis and they secured another 2-nil win. The semi-final match was against Illinois with JuJu Arensdorf netting the game winner, assisted by Marley Naughton, early in the second half coming in the 45th minute. The reminder of the second half was a solid team defensive presence by the Buffaloes, not allowing a single shot on goal in the full 40 minutes of the second half of play.

In an exhilarating championship showdown at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex on November 23, 2024, the University of Colorado Boulder's Women's Club Soccer Black team, famously known as the Buffaloes, claimed victory over the University of Missouri Tigers. Under a sunny afternoon sky, the match concluded in a dramatic shootout with the Buffaloes outscoring the Tigers 4-1 after a 1-1 deadlock in regular and extra time.

From the onset, the Buffaloes took the lead in the 36th minute with a critical goal by Maisun Kobal, assisted by Maddison Brossart, setting a challenging pace for the Tigers. At halftime, the scoreboard read Colorado - Black 1, Missouri 0. The tension escalated as both teams fought valiantly through the second half, with the Tigers netting an equalizer in the 77th minute on a free kick, ultimately leading to a tie that persisted through two 10-minute extra periods. The deciding moment came in a nail-biting shootout where Colorado players Lauren Lailey, Shawn Huxtable, Kiera Simmons, and Tailor Jones each successfully scored, clinching the National Open Championship title for their team.

The stellar performance by the Buffaloes' goalkeeper, Kylie Schultz, was a pivotal factor in their victory, earning her the MVP title. Her defensive prowess was instrumental throughout the match, particularly during the high-stakes penalty shootout stopping the Tigers 2nd PK attempt. Additionally, alongside Kobal, Marley Naughton, Juju Arensdorf, Morgan Taylor, and Emily Lewis were honored as All-Tournament for their outstanding contributions throughout the competition.

This is the 5th National Championship title, 2nd for the Black team (their previous National Open Championship title coming back in 2001) with the other CU Women's Club titles coming in 1998, 2003, and 2004.

This championship victory is a testament to the skill, determination, and team spirit of the University of Colorado Boulder Women's Club soccer team as they close out their season with an impressive 18-4-1 record and finishing on the highest note possible. #skobuffs
