Union Grove High School Broncos Volleyball Team Faces Tough Competition at Tournament
The Union Grove High School Broncos participated in a challenging volleyball tournament on September 13, 2025, at Westosha Central High School. The boys' varsity team faced off against several formidable teams: Whitefish Bay, Notre Dame Academy, Westosha Central, and Pewaukee.
The Broncos opened the tournament with a strong performance against Whitefish Bay, securing a 2-0 victory. However, the following matches proved tougher. Notre Dame Academy handed the Broncos a 0-2 defeat, followed by a closely contested 1-2 loss against Westosha Central. In their final game, Pewaukee also defeated the Broncos with a score of 0-2. Despite the mixed results, Union Grove exhibited resilience and determination throughout the tournament.
Key players for the Broncos included Tyler Johnson, who led with an impressive 25 kills, followed by Caden Tajnai with 14 and Evan Henderson with 13. Brayden Lauf contributed significantly on the defensive front, accounting for 7 blocks, the highest on the team. Additional defensive efforts were noted from Liam Abbott and Evan Henderson with 3 and 2 blocks respectively.
The backcourt saw active participation from Michael Domashevsky, Asher Gonzales, and Cody Borchardt, who managed 29, 24, and 13 digs respectively. The serving was strong as well, with both Gonzales and Cody Borchardt delivering 4 aces each. Assists were distributed among the players, notably by Asher Gonzales with 24 and Alex Lapoint with 33, illustrating a well-rounded team effort.
