Union Grove High School Broncos Triumph in Conference Basketball Clash Against Elkhorn Elks
The Union Grove High School Broncos secured a commanding victory over the Elkhorn Elks in a Varsity level basketball contest on December 19 at Union Grove High School. Finishing the game with a convincing score of 54-33, the Boys' basketball team improved their season record to 3-5.
The Broncos demonstrated a strong defensive effort. Union Grove pulled ahead by a notable margin by halftime, leading 30-17. The second half opened with an impressive 7-0 run, extending their lead to 20 points, effectively placing the Broncos in a dominant position for the remainder of the night.
Notable performances included Tyler Johnson, who led the scoring with 16 points, and Griffin Schultz with 11. They each grabbed 11 rebounds a piece as well. Quinn Schultz contributed significantly with 4 assists and led the team in steals with 2, playing a crucial role in the Broncos' defensive setup which was highlighted by Coach Roettgen in his post-game remarks. Coach Roettgen praised the team's defensive effort, particularly pointing out Quinn Schultz's role in limiting Elkhorn's Luke Paddock.
Caden Tajnai was also noted for his defensive efforts, taking a crucial charge that contributed to the Broncos' control over the game. The entire team was lauded for their cohesive effort in defense and positioning, which was pivotal in holding the Elks to 33 points.
Griffin Schultz also passed Tyson Skalecki and became the Broncos all time 3 point leader with 138 on his career so far!
Looking ahead, the Broncos are set to face Big Foot on December 26 at UW-Parkside, aiming to build on their current momentum and improve their standing further in the season.
