McKenna Bones drove in four runs on three hits to lead Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos past Waterford Varsity Wolverines 7-4 on Thursday. Bones doubled in the third scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and singled in the fifth scoring one.
Waterford Varsity Wolverines got on the board in the top of the first inning after Cailyn Kysely grounded out, and Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos committed an error, each scoring one run.
Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos took the lead in the bottom of the third. Bones doubled, scoring two runs, to give Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos the leg up, 3-2.
Ciara Hage earned the win for Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos. The hurler surrendered two hits and four runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three. Kendall Evjen took the loss for Waterford Varsity Wolverines. The starter went six innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out three and walking seven.
Karlie Peterson collected two hits for Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos in three at bats. Katie Madrigal paced Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Union Grove HS Varsity Broncos stole four bases in the game.
