In a tightly contested Southern Lakes Conference soccer event, the Union Grove High School Broncos girls' varsity team emerged victorious against the Waterford Wolverines with a final score of 1-0. The match, held on May 6th in the cool, dry conditions of Waterford, showcased a superb display of tactical prowess and resilience from the Broncos.
Ruby Christiansen became the heroine for Union Grove, scoring the decisive goal in just the 2nd minute of play. Her early strike, assisted by Marley Busey, proved unbeatable, setting the tone for the rest of the event. This crucial moment was supported by a staunch defensive effort spearheaded by sophomore Norah McNulty and junior Abby Sorensen, whose performances were instrumental in neutralizing Waterford’s attack throughout the event.
Goalkeeper Sam Antonneau also starred, making a critical save just before halftime that helped preserve the lead and ultimately secure the win for Union Grove. Antonneau's heroics in goal were pivotal, earning her significant accolades alongside Christiansen's match-winning effort.
