In an early-season display of resilience, the Bishop Foley varsity volleyball team clinched a narrow victory over the Lamphere Rams on August 28, winning 3-2 in a non-league contest held at Lamphere. With both teams fighting hard, the match extended to five sets, showcasing the tenacity of the Bishop Foley players.

The first set saw Bishop Foley setting the pace with a tight 25-22 win, but Lamphere responded strongly in the second set, edging out Bishop Foley 27-25. The third set was dominated by Bishop Foley with a convincing 25-15 victory. However, Lamphere bounced back in the fourth set, winning 25-16. In the decisive fifth set, Bishop Foley overpowered Lamphere with a 15-6 score, securing the overall win.

Key players made significant contributions to the victory. Emma Behnke led with 10 kills and 14 digs, while also providing 11 assists. Marnie Augustyn not only added 5 kills but also made notable impacts with 10 aces and 17 serve receptions. Rosie Lass contributed across the board with 6 aces, 10 digs, and a remarkable 32 serve receptions. Mary LoBue played a crucial role defensively, recording 4 blocks and adding 8 kills.

Emma Behnke shared her thoughts on the team's performance, stating,

"It is still pretty early in the season, and we are still trying to find our team chemistry. But yesterday we battled through 5 sets as a team coming out with the win, and are excited to see how the season progresses."

Coach Colleen Szakacs also reflected on the game's intensity,

"It was a great experience to get a win in a 5-set thriller this early in the season. The girls were able to figure some things on the fly and did a great job adjusting to pull out the win. I like the way we are being aggressive on offense and we are hoping to bring that with us when we start league play next week."

With this win, Bishop Foley sets a promising tone for their upcoming league games. They are scheduled to face Orchard Lake St. Mary's next at home on September 5. The team stands ready to build on their current momentum and aims to improve their current 2-0 record.
