Bishop Foley Football Faces Tough Non-League Battle with Madison Heights
In a challenging opening day outing at Venture Park, Bishop Foley Varsity Football succumbed to a 44-22 loss against Madison Heights HS on August 29, 2024. Despite the high energy and intense gameplay, the Madison Heights Eagles proved too formidable in this non-league contest.
Venture Park witnessed a gutsy performance from the Bishop Foley players, with notable efforts from Robert Gjonaj, who impressively accounted for 108 rushing yards on 21 carries, along with a touchdown. Gjonaj also caught three passes, accumulating 82 yards. Other contributors included Lukas Straske and Tad Dobek, who each added a touchdown to the Bishop Foley tally. On the defensive end, Mitch Brewer delivered two sacks and four tackles, while Michael Banet echoed the defensive prowess with five tackles and two sacks.
Head Coach Mike Cuddeback expressed resilience in face of the day's outcome.
"Week 1 did not quite go as planned versus a new and improved Madison Heights Football Team. Our team played very hard and will look to bounce back and get things moving in the right direction versus Pershing in week 2,"
remarked Cuddeback after the game.
Looking ahead, Bishop Foley aims to claim its first victory in the forthcoming game against Detroit Pershing scheduled for September 6, 2024, at BFC. As they recover from their current 0-1 record, the team and fans are gearing up for what promises to be a riveting second week.
