St. Ursula Leads the Pack at the CHSL Bishop Girls Cross Country Championship
This past Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Kensington Metro Park hosted an exhilarating display of athleticism and competitive spirit as the CHSL Bishop Girls Cross Country Championship unfolded. Teams from across the league, including powerhouses like St. Ursula, Notre Dame Academy, and Fr. Gabriel Richard, competed for the top position.
St. Ursula emerged victorious, leading the scoreboard with a commendable total of 53 points, closely followed by Notre Dame Academy, which secured 59 points. The intense competition showcased the efforts of several high achieving runners, with some standout performances paving the road to victory.
Samantha Schroeder of Jackson Lumen Christi set a blazing pace to clinch the individual first place, clocking in at 19:14.1. Not far behind, Mea D'Agostino from Orchard Lake St. Mary's bagged second place with a time of 20:02.8. St. Ursula's own, Sophia Pennywitt, also shone brightly securing the third spot at 20:14.3.
Other notable athletes included Tessa Hoyt and Violet Gies from Notre Dame Academy, who landed in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, demonstrating strong performances. The young Elizabeth Gerzema from Farmington Hills Mercy, only a freshman, marked her presence by finishing seventh.
This championship not only highlighted individual talents but also underscored the depth of skill across the participating schools, all battling under the overarching banner of the Detroit Catholic League. This event sets a high bar for the forthcoming competitions, marking another memorable chapter in the league's storied history.
