NU Women Clinch Home Field with Win Over University of Rochester

The Niagara University's Women's Rugby team clinched a decisive victory against University of Rochester on October 20, 2024, with a commanding 43-14 scoreline. The match, held at the University of Rochester amidst sunny and warm conditions, saw Niagara University dominate their opponents to maintain their unbeaten record this season.

From the outset, Niagara University set the tone with impressive plays by key players. Tateum Hillman '25 opened the scoring rush with a notable try at the 25-minute mark, setting the stage for more Niagara success. Emma McNab '27 was able attain a remarkable hat trick, a testament to her exceptional performance in the match. Lauren Hrusa 25' and Mackenzie Addley 25' also contributed significantly, with Hrusa making a critical run to score and Mackenzie Addley 25' adding two tries to the tally. The conversions by Elizabeth Whipple 28', were crucial in cementing the lead, amplifying Niagara's dominance throughout the match.

Niagara University's defense was as formidable as its offense. Remarks on the outstanding defense by players like Emma McNab 27' , Mya Teijeira 26', and Isabella Kelley 26' highlighted their pivotal roles in thwarting Rochester's efforts. The strategic plays and robust defense noted across the team exemplified a well-rounded performance that was both strategic and dynamic.

With the win, the NU Women have earned a home field advantage for the first round of the UNYCR Conference Playoffs. As the team stands with a 6-1 record this season, the anticipation and morale are undoubtedly high. Our women are excited for the opportunity to host Clarkson University on Sunday, October 27, at 11am for a chance to win the UNYCRC Championship.
