The Brewton-Parker Barons are set to start a new chapter in their athletics department. Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, the Barons are adding Beach Volleyball. The inaugural head coach for the program will be Marco Macias. Macias will also serve as the Assistant Volleyball Coach, starting July 1, 2025. Macias, a former professional athlete with a significant coaching background, transitions into this role after impactful tenures at the high school and collegiate levels. His robust playing career complements his coaching style, having been a key member of the Mexican National Team (Indoor and Beach) and participating in events such as the 2016 Rio Olympic Qualifiers and the FIVB World Championships, as well as the FIVB World Beach Tour, where he represented Mexico on the global circuit.

Athletic Director Chris Dooley shared his thoughts on adding Marco to the athletic department.

"We are excited about adding Marco to our coaching staff to lead our beach volleyball program. Both his coaching and playing pedigrees are exceptional, and he has a proven track record of building relationships with and developing student-athletes at the high school, club, and college levels. We are excited about the addition of beach volleyball at Brewton-Parker Christian University. In addition to the hiring of an exceptional coach, we will be breaking ground early in the fall semester on our beach volleyball facility, which will house three beach volleyball courts ."

The addition of Beach Volleyball will be the ninth women's varsity sport at the school.

Macias's recent roles include leading the Episcopal School of Jacksonville to their first-ever District and Regional Championships and serving as Assistant Coach at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He also brings international experience from his time directing high-performance camps globally. In the club volleyball sector, Macias was the Head Coach at Powers Volleyball Club in Jacksonville, where he contributed to shaping competitive travel teams. Founder of HP Volleyball & PVC Savannah, focusing on high-performance training. Co-founder of Savannah Volleyball Elite (with wife, Hall of Famer for Puerto Rico in both Beach and Indoor; Yamileska Yantin) – Georgia's newest elite volleyball hub, committed to raising the Southeast's competitive standard. Off the court, Marco is a dedicated family man, raising two young athletes of his own: Daren (10) and Eliam (4), who are already embracing their parents' passion for sports and teamwork.

Head Indoor Volleyball Coach Obed Quiles shared what it means to him to bring Marco to Brewton-Parker.

"I'm excited to have Marcos as an assistant for indoor and to be the new Beach coach. Marcos brings extensive volleyball experience and knowledge from his playing career. Knowing him as a friend, I can say we are bringing in an exceptional individual to our campus, and his presence will be invaluable to our program as it continues to grow."

The addition of Marco to the program only highlights the positive changes the athletic department has made to focus on improving.

As he steps into his role at Brewton-Parker, the community eagerly anticipates the growth and success he will bring to the Barons' programs. If you are a potential player and you're excited about the opportunity to be part of the inaugural team that will begin competition in the 2026-2027 academic year, please email Coach Macias at mvargas@bpc.edu.
