Playing at Forest Hills Park, the Lions hosted their first conference game of the regular season. The sunny weather with a hint of wind and a temperature of 64 degrees set the stage for the season's very first challenge.

Despite the loss, the St. Martin de Porres Lions showcased some exceptional plays. Senior Tai'Quan West scored the sole run for the Lions while understanding the window of opportunity for improvement.

"We all were nervous for our first game of the season but we had fun overall. We had the stands full of fans so I know next game will be even better,"

sophomore Darian Brown said.

The coaching staff echoed the promising spirit, with Head Coach Bob Conroy and Assistant Coach Ryan Schneider commending the Lions for their performance.

"This was one of the best season opener games we've played. The team is showing great potential for the year,"

said the coaches.

Individual highlights also shone through the collective result. Kaeden Schneider, the starting pitcher for St. Martin de Porres, notched two impressive innings where he struck out his opponents three consecutive times. His successor, pitcher Gardiyah, also had two strikeouts in the fifth inning.

"This game was definitely a learning experience for our team. We are excited and motivated to face our next competitor,"

said Coach Conroy.

The tactical prowess of the Lions was reinforced by key plays such as Geroge Battle and Khalid Jennings catching fly balls in the outfield.

With a current record of 0-1, the Lions are looking to rebound in their next game scheduled for March 27. The game is set to take place on the St. Martin de Porres High School's home field at Forest Hills Park against Grand River.
