Record-setting performances lead Avon bowlers to victory
A handful of records were set Wednesday as Avon’s bowlers competed against Lutheran West at the American Slovak Club in Lorain.
The boys defeated the visitors by a score of 2,169-2,080, but it took a season’s-best total of 1,003 in the second individual game to take the lead. The Eagles are now 4-3 on the season.
Avon was led by Bennet Ernst with scores of 167-225 (392). He was backed by Grady Stipe at 176-201 (377), Cole Corpus at 169-183 (352), Austin Wolfe at 153-182 (335), Nick Sanchez (212) and Nathen Stewart (144).
Despite bowling unopposed, Avon’s girls set two program records with a team total of 1,701 and a Baker series total of 346. The top bowler for the Eagles was Juliet Triplett, who rolled games of 156 and 135 for a personal record series of 291. She was backed by Grace Freeman, who opened with a PR 184 and came back with a 104 for a 288 series, and Kara Patton, who set a series PR with scores of 138-149 (287). Also bowling for Avon were Ava Benninghofen at 127-152 (279), Cameron Gallup (105) and Kay Forbis (105).
The Eagles are now off until January 5, when they face Buckeye at Nautical Lanes.
