In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, the Avon High School Eagles trounced the Lake Shoremen in the battle of not only the Silver Rail Trophy but also to keep the Shoremen from getting a share of the Southwest Conference crown with a resounding 42-10 victory at Avon Lake Memorial Stadium on October 25, 2024. The varsity squad, showcasing their prowess in the regular season football face-off, demonstrated why they completed an undefeated season.
From the onset, the Eagles established a commanding presence, closing the first half with a significant lead of 35-10. Senior quarterback Nolan Good was in stellar form, orchestrating multiple scoring drives. He connected with junior Grant Barr for a precise 20-yard touchdown pass and later found senior Matt Maxey for a dynamic 30-yard touchdown. Good also showcased his agility and strategic thinking with a 7-yard touchdown rush and a spectacular 37-yard touchdown pass to senior Cole Kepner. Junior QuiantΓ© Smith contributed with a powerful 2-yard rushing touchdown, further extending the Eagles' lead.
Not to be overshadowed, the Eagles' defense made crucial plays, with senior Owen Garcia recovering a fumble, adding to the team's momentum. The Shoremen managed to score their lone touchdown through Alex Affolter's 25-yard pass to Aiden Stewart, but it wasn't enough to challenge the dominant Eagles.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face the North Olmsted Eagles next week in the First Round of the OHSAA playoffs on November 1, 2024, at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium. With a perfect regular season record of 10-0, the Eagles are eyeing the continuation of their winning streak, aiming for another successful outing in their quest for the Division II State Championship crown.
