In a tightly contested regular season basketball game at St. Edward High School on January 17, 2025, the St. Edward Freshman Gold team emerged victorious against the Walsh Jesuit Warriors by a final score of 48-40. The game saw the Eagles maintaining their lead throughout, despite a challenging first half that ended with both teams tied at 22-22.

Key players for St. Edward included Matt McKee, who led the scoring with 15 points, followed by Braydon Ramser with 8 points, and both Hudson Grant and Ben Zbawiony contributing 5 points each. Ramser's performance was highlighted by his physical play and by making two critical free throws late in the fourth quarter, securing the team's lead. Moreover, the Eagles' defense was particularly strong in the third quarter, limiting the Warriors to just three points.

Assistant Coach PJ Flannery commented on the game's intensity, stating,

"Hard work beats talent every day and for awhile, Walsh just wanted it more than we did. We played great in the third quarter and then got a bit too casual. A tough win though to protect home court to set the table for watching my dad and my brother face off against each other in the Varsity game."

This win brings the St. Edward Freshman Gold's season record to 8-1.

Looking ahead, the next challenge for St. Edward will be an away game against St. Ignatius on January 20, 2025 in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Green & Gold doubleheader at Ignatius. The Gold team tips off at 10:00am followed by the Green team at 11:30am. Show up and show out for some intense freshman hoops to celebrate the holiday.
