Badger Lightning Continues Their Winning Ways

In the final Badger Conference game of the season on February 10, the Badger Lightning claimed a decisive 3-1 victory against the Viroqua Blackhawks at the Reedsburg Area Community Arena. The Lightning showcased their prowess, maintaining a lead throughout the game and finishing strong in the third period. The game kicked off with Audrey Hanko lighting up the scoreboard at just 2:22 into the first period, setting the tone for the Lightning. Reese Olson, who scored the game-winning goal, followed suit at 10:02 in the same period, doubling the lead to 2-0. By the end of the second period, Elizabeth Haag extended the advantage to 3-0. Although Viroqua's Brenna Rogers managed to score in the third period, it wasn't enough to turn the tide, leaving the final score at 3-1 in favor of the Badger Lightning. Goalkeeping was a crucial aspect of the game, with Sami Bramstedt of the Blackhawks stopping 35 shots. Olivia Renneberg, guarding the net for Badger Lightning, also played a pivotal role in securing the win. Contributions were not limited to goal scorers; Dayana Wade and Kayla Garbacz provided crucial assists for the Lightning, while Mattea Nelson assisted the lone Blackhawks' goal. Coach Nathan Breunig expressed immense pride in his team's performance, stating, "We are becoming one of the better passing teams in the conference right now. The players have worked hard in this area, and it shows on game nights. I am so proud of them." This game not only highlighted individual talents but also the collective effort and strategic game play by the Lightning. Looking ahead, the team is set to face Northland Pines at the Eagle River Sports Arena on February 14, 2025. With a current record of 9-12, the Lightning is eager to carry their momentum into the regular season finale.
