Baraboo High School Thunderbirds Dominate in 8-0 Soccer Victory Over United

On a brisk Tuesday evening on Flambeau Field in Beryl Neuman Stadium, the Baraboo High School girls' soccer team delivered an overwhelming performance against Portage/Poynette United. The match on April 8, 2025, saw the Thunderbirds securing a commanding 8-0 shutout in a regular season conference match. From the outset, the Thunderbirds were in control, finishing the first half with a solid 3-0 lead. By the conclusion of the event, eight different Thunderbirds had found the back of the net, or had provided assists, showcasing a balanced and relentless offensive effort. Leading the charge, Kylee Hollenbeck-Smith netted her second hat-trick for the season, followed by two goals from Willa Scanlan. The game-winning goal came from Maya Ferrera-Hunter, solidifying her standout performance which also included an assist. The precision in front of the goal was matched by impeccable defending, with goalkeeper Leah Hess ensuring a clean sheet for the team with support from her stellar defensive line. Despite challenges of battling injuries and dealing with cooler weather, the team's spirit remained unbroken, exemplifying resilience and determination. Coach Lang praised the team's versatility and unity, stating, "Eight different people had a goal or an assist tonight- that's a team win right there! I'm proud of the overall team effort and happy with the players' willingness to play out of their normal positions."
