St. Angela Girls JV Basketball Claims Thrilling Victory Over Mount Union in the Cleveland Summer Classic
The St. Angela Merici Bruins' Girls JV basketball team secured a nail-biting victory against Mount Union Purple Raiders at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on March 6 during the Cleveland Summer Classic.
The Bruins were able to turn the game around in the fourth quarter after being down by 7 points, ultimately emerging victorious with a final score of 49-48.
The star players of this edge-of-the-seat tournament were Grace Fitz, Lucy Hanna, and Maeve Kelly, who led the Bruins in scoring with 15, 13, and 10 points, respectively. Their efforts were bolstered by Reese Meredith, who contributed 10 rebounds, and Lizzy Incze, who played a fantastic point guard role. The defensive prowess of Desiree Smith was also a noteworthy element that kept the opposition in check.
"They were a tough team, we are happy to get the win,"
Smith said, reflecting on the game.
Complementing Smith's sentiment, Bruins Coach Fitzpatrick said,
"What a game! I'm proud of the girls."
The momentum generated from this win added another desirable item to the Bruins' record, improving it to 3-3.
Looking ahead, the Bruins are scheduled to take on John Carroll University on June 6 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
