The Brown University Bruins secured a notable victory against the Cornell Big Red rugby team, clinching a 21-13 win on home turf at Brown University's varsity college game on June 5.
In a regular season face-off, the Bruins displayed their prowess in a well-rounded game which was topped with a significant pre-game pep talk from the Brown University President Christina Paxson. The pleasant weather set the stage for an intense battle that had fans on the edge of their seats.
The game began with the Bruins setting the tone, with a halftime score of 14-10 in their favor. The scoring highlights for Brown were led by Colin Doyle, who made two pivotal tries, while Patrick Cooney added one, contributing significantly to their lead. Bill Spear further extended the Bruins' advantage with two successful conversions.
"Anytime you beat a rival feels great and sets the tone for your next game,"
Spear said, underscoring the significance of the win. Coach Arbeznik echoed the challenging nature of the game:
"This was a tough challenge not only with our opponent, but we also had to maintain composure in such a big game."
