Holy Name Achieves Notable Success at OHSAA District Meet
The Green Wave showcased exceptional talent at the OHSAA District Meet held at Orrville High School this past weekend. The team, known for their relentless dedication, was represented by standout performers in the field events, setting new personal and school records.
Senior Drew Styers made headlines by jumping a personal best of 20'10'' in the long jump, earning him a commendable 2nd place and All District Second Team honors. This achievement not only spotlighted his individual talent but also set high expectations for his upcoming competition at the OHSAA Regional Meet. On the other hand, Senior Alina Tabb threw an impressive 115 ft. in the discus event, securing 3rd place and her second consecutive qualification to the Regionals. Alina has been a dominant force in discus, holding the six best throws in Holy Name history and adding nine feet to the school record this past season.
Coach Knapik expressed pride in his athletes' performance, stating, 'I am extremely proud of both Drew and Alina for their performances this past weekend. Even though they were the only two to qualify to Regionals, all of our athletes did a tremendous job and represented Holy Name well. Very proud and just a terrific season overall!'
Looking ahead, Drew will compete on Thursday, May 29, and Alina will take her chances on Saturday, May 31, both at the OHSAA Regional Meet hosted by Austintown Fitch High School. Their performances will be pivotal in qualifying for the Division II OHSAA State Meet in Columbus, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying continuation of the season.
