Holy Name Green Wave Secures Victory in OHSAA District Semifinals Against Hawken
In a pivotal OHSAA District Semifinal baseball game, the Holy Name Green Wave clinched a hard-fought victory against the Hawken High School Hawks. The game, held at the opponent's field on a windy, cool evening on Tuesday, ended with a close score of 2-1 favoring Holy Name in extra innings.
Holy Name's starting pitcher, Harrison Frank, delivered an outstanding performance, pitching an 8 inning complete game. Frank impressively took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before yielding a single run and three hits. His command was evident as he struck out seven and walked only two, crucial to maintaining the team's lead.
Offensively, Ryan Wisniewski played a significant role by going 2-3 with a walk. Support came from Brendon Preisel, Mikey Tworzydlo, and Michael Oleksik, each adding a crucial hit. The team showcased aggressive baserunning, stealing three bases and effectively manufacturing two runs that ultimately secured their win. Defensively, Preisel, along with Svetz, Nemeth, and Masetta, were pivotal, contributing to a flawless defensive effort noted by coach Mike Masetta, who praised the team's consistency and spirit.
Looking ahead, the Green Wave is set to face the number one seed Lake Catholic at the OHSAA District Finals tomorrow, Thursday May 29th at Gilmour Academy in Gate Mills at 5pm.. The team hopes to carry forward their momentum and secure another win in their journey through the championships.
