The Union Grove High School boys varsity golf team kicked off their 2025 season with a challenging tournament at the Evergreen Golf Club on April 5, securing an eighth-place finish among a competitive field. The Broncos, fronted by standout performances, faced off against multiple schools including Westosha Central, Slinger, and Lake Mills among others.

Facing brisk weather conditions in the low 40s, the Broncos tallied a team score of 358. Individually, Cody Nelson led the team with a score of 85, highlighted by an eagle on the par 5 fourth hole, marking a spectacular start to his day. Following closely were Caden Eichner and Jack Ryan, who posted scores of 89 and 91, respectively. Cody Borchardt and Caleb Westrum also contributed with scores of 93 and 96.

Coach commented on the team's performance, stating,

"For it being the first event of the season, I saw a lot of good things from my players. Each player had stretches of really good play, but we had a few too many blow up holes. We certainly have things that we need to clean up, but I walked away from today feeling pretty good about where we are at after week 1 of the season."

Looking forward, the Broncos will next compete at the Southern Lakes Conference Major #1, set to take place at Ives Grove on April 8. The team remains optimistic about their potential for improvement and success in the upcoming events.
