Union Grove High School Broncos Shine at SLC Varsity Championship
Union Grove High School Broncos performed commendably at the SLC Varsity Championship held on May 20, 2025, at Westosha High School. Competing against teams from Badger, Westosha Central, Elkhorn Area, Waterford Union, Burlington, Wilmot Union, and Beloit Memorial, the Union Grove boys and girls track and field teams showcased their skills and determination.
The girls' team, led by standout performances in both running and field events, secured a solid third place with 109 points. The girls' 4x800 relay team, comprising Alyssa Simpson, Jenna James, Camryn Smith, and Ashley Lamers, clinched first place, setting a high tone for the day. Ashley Lamers also dominated the Girls Pole Vault, securing another first place with a vault of 11-06. Additional notable performances included Lamers winning the Girls 800 Run, Camryn Smith taking second in the same event, and Sophia Matuszek finishing second in the Girls 3200 Run.
The boys' team faced tough competition and finished eighth with 40.5 points. Nathan Tucker made a significant contribution by winning first place in the Boys 100m Dash. Samuel Matuszek matched this achievement in the Boys Pole Vault with a first-place clearance of 13-06.
Union Grove's next challenge is the Regionals scheduled for May 27, 2025, in South Milwaukee, where they hope to build on their achievements from the SLC Varsity Championship.
