Broncos Triumph in Season Opener

Union Grove High School kicked off their Varsity Football season with a decisive 35-6 victory over the Rebels of Horlick High School on a crisp August night in Union Grove. The non-conference game was held under partly cloudy skies, setting a dramatic stage for the season's opening game.
The Broncos dominated the first half, securing a substantial 21-0 lead by halftime. The highlight included a series of successful plays led by Quintyn Martinez who scored three of his four rushing touchdowns before the break. The defensive prowess of the team was marked by a crucial safety executed by Anthony Cupertino and interceptions by Griffin Schultz and Anthony Zimmermann, contributing significantly to the Broncos' strong defensive showing.
The second half saw continued vigor from Union Grove, with Martinez scoring his fourth touchdown and Garrett Fletcher adding another, rounding the final score at 35-6. Offensively, the Broncos were unstoppable, while defensively, they were equally impressive, recovering a fumble on a kickoff and recording a total of five tackles by Klaus, strengthening their defensive line.
Looking towards their next game, the Broncos are set to play South Milwaukee on August 29 at Union Grove. Having started the season on a high note, Union Grove's record stands promisingly at 1-0, contrasting the upcoming opponent's 0-1. Players and coaching staff voiced a mix of pride and a focus on areas for improvement, with Martinez noting the potential for better performance despite a strong team effort and Coach McClelland praising the team's effort but recognizing the team is capable of much more.
