Loyola Bulldogs Claim Victory in District Championship Football Playoff
In a spectacular display of teamwork and strategy, the Loyola Detroit Bulldogs secured a resounding 60-40 win over the Lutheran Northwest Crusaders in the Playoffs District Championship on November 8, 2024. This marked a significant victory for the varsity team.
The cold night at the Lutheran Northwest field set the stage for a fierce contest between the Bulldogs and the Crusaders. Despite a challenging weather condition, the Bulldogs showcased their resilience and determination. The halftime scoreboard read Loyola 32, Lutheran Northwest 19, reflecting a strong first half by the Bulldogs. Momentum shifted in the Bulldogs' favor during a critical moment in the 4th quarter when Eric Jones returned a 70-yard kickoff for a touchdown, extending their lead significantly.
Eric Jones, Raylon Murry, and Antonio Vazquez were instrumental in this victory, scoring multiple touchdowns that kept the pressure high on the Crusaders. Additionally, the Bulldogs' defense was formidable, contributing two crucial pick-sixes by Antonio Vazquez and Emauri Beard. The special teams also played a pivotal role, with Eric and Eri’eon Jones enhancing the team's field position with excellent kick returns.
Reflecting on the journey and the victory, player Tristian Abram stated,
"My freshman year we were 1-8 and now look at me, I’m a district champion."
Coach Sims also highlighted the community's role in this triumph,
"The community, school, and staff translated the positive energy into a huge showing and winning of the district championship."
With this victory, the Bulldogs now prepare to face Gabriel Richard at Riverview Gabriel Richard on November 15, 2024, as they continue their quest in the playoffs. The Loyola community remains hopeful and supportive as their team advances with a current record of 5-6.
