NU Men Rugby Secures Solid Win Over SUNY Brockport to Clinch Home Field Advantage for Conference Playoffs!
In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, Niagara University Rugby edged out SUNY Brockport with a final score of 40-3 on a windy, cold, and partly cloudy day at SUNY Brockport. This victory on October 27, 2024, earns the Purple Eagles and undefeated 7-0 record as well as home field advantage for the playoffs.
Johnny Rizdy '28 was able to start the scoring for NU on the day with a well worked try off a nice set piece move at the 12th minute. This was followed with a try by Joe McGovern '25 busting over the white wash for a well earned try at the 22nd minute. This would bring the first half scoring to a close with NU leading 14-0. The second half started where the 1st half ended with NU converting possession to points. Jaden Cusprinie 26', who scored a hat trick, was instrumental in organizing our attack and defense on the day. Charlie Marzec '26 assisted with a try of his own and as well as a solid presence in the Purple Eagles scrums and lineouts. John Rovente 27' had a strong day with the boot converting 5/6 tries bringing NU's tally to 40-3. A strong defensive effort with an evolving attack from the set piece helped NU to a great team win to end the regular season.
With this win, the men have earned home field advantage for the conference playoffs. The first playoff match will be Sunday, November 3rd, at 3pm against SUNY Buffalo State on our new pitch! The men are excited for the opportunity and are expecting a hard fought match against Buff State.
