Beekmantown's Dylan Brown Works His Way Through PHS Defenders

BEEKMANTOWN — On paper, it looked like a heavyweight matchup. In reality, it was a showcase for just how dangerous Beekmantown’s boys soccer team can be when everything clicks.

The Eagles dominated from start to finish Tuesday night, overwhelming Plattsburgh High School in a 7–0 victory that featured goals from five different players, a defense that didn’t allow a single shot on net, and a confident tone from a program that believes it’s capable of big things this fall.

Senior striker Jackson Goodwin led the way with a hat trick, scoring once in the first half and twice more after halftime to put the game out of reach. But if you ask him, his performance was less about personal stats and more about the group’s energy.

“I got some nice feeds tonight,”

he continued, with a big smile. “It feels good — but it’s really about the team.," Goodwin said.

"We know we have a team that has a chance to go all the way this year,"

Goodwin said.

"Team-wise, morale is great. Everyone’s really hyped up."

Goodwin’s first tally set the tone midway through the opening half, as he buried a feed from Logan Estes off a corner kick. The Eagles doubled the advantage just before halftime when Ed Sweenor slipped a shot over the keeper from the top of the box, assisted by Sullivan Loughan.

That 2–0 halftime edge felt secure thanks to a back line that suffocated every PHS attack. Jasper Burdo, the Eagles’ senior goalkeeper, spent long stretches directing traffic rather than facing pressure.

“We have good communicators in the back," Burdo explained.

"(Sweeper) Braden Nephew does a good job helping me (communicate) with everybody all game about position. That really plays into us doing so well.”

The second half turned into a flood. Dylan Brown struck early after halftime, finishing a ball from Evan Dragoon to make it 3–0. Minutes later, Loughan pushed forward from his usual defensive spot and chipped in a fourth goal off a setup from Jackson Deyo.

From there, Goodwin took over. He scored his second of the night on a pass from Evan Latinville, then completed the hat trick with help from Sweenor to stretch the lead to 6–0. Brown capped the scoring on another finish late, assisted by Deyo.

By the end, the stat sheet told the story: 22 shots to 0, with nine on goal for Beekmantown and none for the Hornets. The Eagles also had 11 corner kicks compared to just three for PHS.

“We moved the ball well tonight,”

said Eagles Head Coach Ryan Lucey.

“We’re still working on using the sidelines a little bit more, but I thought our guys hit on it pretty good. It was nice to see some different guys get involved in the build instead of always the same two or three.”

Lucey pointed to Deyo, Smart, and Dragoon as players who did the little things to keep the offense flowing. He also praised the adaptability of Loughan, who was pushed into a forward role after injuries forced the lineup to shuffle.

“Everybody just contributed and did their job,”

Lucey said.

“It was nice to see Sullivan go up and score after we had to move him. That’s just the kind of effort we got from everyone.”

The win improved Beekmantown’s record to 4–1, with the lone blemish coming in the Chazy Tournament final against Canton — a game in which the Eagles had more chances than the Golden Bears but fell, 1–0 .

But performances like Wednesday night’s show how dangerous this team can be when firing on all cylinders.

The Eagles now turn their attention to Saranac on Friday before next week’s clash with rival Peru — a matchup that could serve as an early preview of the Class A sectional final. The Spartans are coming off their own clash with the Knighthawks, a 3-2 loss in an overtime thriller that will surely have the home team hungry and ready for their guest from Beekmantown.
