Beekmantown Pushes Past Salmon River, 4–1, After Tough Stretch of Games
BEEKMANTOWN — After back-to-back battles with league rivals Saranac and Peru, Beekmantown’s boys soccer team could have been forgiven for showing a little fatigue. The Eagles looked a touch heavy-legged in the opening half Thursday, but still had enough in the tank to pull away for a 4–1 non-division win over Salmon River.
Dylan Brown opened the scoring late in the first half, finishing off a pass from Evan Latinville at the 34:50 mark to give the Eagles (7-1 overall, 5-0 in Northern Soccer League play) a narrow edge at the break.
Head coach Ryan Loucy said the team’s energy wasn’t quite at its usual level. “It’s always tough to come back and play a quality game after such a huge effort and win from only a few nights prior,” Loucy said. “It definitely had an impact on our energy level in the first half. But they dug down and had a little bit better second half. Either way, they did enough to get a win.”
The Eagles responded after halftime. Less than three minutes in, Hamza Fakir doubled the lead off a setup from Jackson Goodwin. Salmon River clawed back midway through the half when Kayden Thompson, assisted by Tyten Wylie, cut the margin to 2–1.
That goal seemed to jolt Beekmantown back into gear. Just 90 seconds later, Brown netted his second goal of the night, assisted by Braden Nephew. With the Spartans on their heels, the Eagles finished things off at 34:47 when Ryan DuBray found the net off a Brown assist.
Beekmantown outshot Salmon River 15–4, with goalkeeper Jasper Burdo stopping three shots. Salmon River keepers Noah Jock and Jovie Thompson combined for 10 saves.
The result capped off a demanding stretch for Beekmantown. Just six days earlier, the Eagles edged Saranac in a 3–1 win that was tighter than the score suggested, with the Spartans pressing hard throughout. On Tuesday night, Beekmantown followed with another intense showdown against Peru, where the Eagles had to grind out every chance in a high-level matchup between two of the CVAC’s best.
By comparison, Thursday’s contest didn’t have the same fire, but Loucy credited his group for finding a way through. “They did enough to get a win,” he said. “And sometimes that’s what you need after an emotional run of games — just get it done and move forward.”
The Eagles’ balanced attack has been a theme all season. Brown netted two goals in the win, Fakir continues to provide a spark up front, and DuBray added to the scoring depth. Behind them, Latinville, Goodwin, and Nephew all supplied assists, underscoring how many different players are capable of creating chances.
At 4–1, Beekmantown remains on track in the CVAC race and looks every bit like a contender. The next challenge will be regaining sharpness after this three-game grind, with more league tests looming.
