Eagles explode in second half, top Gahanna Lincoln, 5-0
Following a scoreless first half, the Avon girls soccer team exploded for five goals in the second half Saturday to defeat visiting Gahanna Lincoln, 5-0, in non-conference action. The Eagles are now 9-4-2 on the season.
Sydney Thomas broke through first for Avon, scoring twice within a five-minute span early in the second half. The sophomore now has 17 goals on the season. Paige Millett, Ella Graham and Maddie Gettings each added goals as the Eagles gradually pulled away.
Avon hosts Elyria Wednesday for a match that has been designated Senior Night. If victorious, the Eagles would clinch the Southwestern Conference title.
