Eagles make it two in a row with 48-21 victory over Elyria
Playing on the road for the first time this season, Avon’s girls basketball team gradually pulled away in the first half and then played some shutdown defense in the second half to take a 48-21 victory over Elyria in Southwestern Conference action Wednesday.
For the second game in a row, senior Audrey Lammers scored nine points to lead the Eagles, who won their second consecutive game to raise their record to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SWC.
The game also marked the first action of the season for senior Abby Owens, who returned from an injury to score all eight of her points in the second half, including two 3-pointers. Janelle Antrum and Sophia Sharp each added six points for Avon, which had 15 players see time on the court and 11 players score points.
Avon, which hosts North Ridgeville on Saturday, led by just four, 11-7, after one period. The lead was up to 11, 24-13, by halftime. Any hopes that Elyria had of mounting a comeback were put to rest in the third quarter, which saw the Eagles outscore the hosts, 18-5, to take a 42-18 lead. Avon allowed the Pioneers to score just eight points in the second half.
