Avon boys top Black River bowlers, girls fall by just 10 pins

For the second time in three days, Avon’s bowling teams split with their opponent, only this time the results were reversed. On Monday, the girls defeated Olmsted Falls while the boys were defeated. Wednesday at the Slovak Club, the boys topped Black River by 79 pins, but the girls lost by 10.

Led by a personal record two-game series by Cole Corpus, Avon’s boys defeated the Pirates, 2,090-2011. Corpus rolled games of 225-207 (432) for the Eagles, now 3-3. He was backed by Grady Stipe at 223-154 (377), Bennet Ernst at 189-180 (369), Austin Wolfe at 168-119 (287) and Nathen Stewart with a 171.

Avon’s girls, also 3-3 on the season, held a 21-pin lead following the two individual games, but the Eagles couldn’t hold the advantage in the Baker games, falling by the score of 1,530-1,520. Avon was topped by Grace Freeman at 130-154 (284). She was followed by Juliet Triplett at 137-135 (272), Kailynn Forbis at 115-138 (253), Cameron Gallup at 126-113 (239) and Ava Benninghofen at 92-121 (213).

The next match for the Eagles will be December 17 when they face Lutheran West at the Slovak Club in Lorain.
