The Avon High School Rocket League esports team took flight during the OHSAA ESO State Competition at the University of Akron on April 14, securing a semifinal spot in the annual event.

After a challenging start where they went 1-2 in pool play, the Eagles rallied to sweep Beavercreek in three games, showcasing their growing chemistry and skill. Their determined push was unfortunately met with a narrow loss to Pickerington, the eventual state runner-up, reflecting the high level of competition.

Top performances were delivered by Brandon Keene, Slade Sanders, and Ty Bender, who proved integral to Avon's successes.

"This team had high expectations, wanting to win states,"

Coach quote said.

"Although they didn't reach their goal, I am proud of them for making such a deep run."

The coach also emphasized the team's growth, noting that despite the challenge of competing against schools with established esports programs, the Avon High School squad has already set its sights on next year's competition.

"Building on our season this year, we have a returning member who will be able to share this experience, and hope to build a team for next year."
