Brown Men's Rugby Scores Resounding Victory Over Harvard in Liberty Conference Matchup

Story Image
Against Harvard the Brown forwards won 11 penalties from 16 scrums

In a dominant display of power and skill, the Brown Men's Rugby team trounced the Harvard Crimson with a staggering final score of 106-0 at the Berylon Family Fields at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The match, held on September 27, 2025, was part of the Liberty Conference regular season and the first of two matches against Ivy League rivals as part of the annual Ivy League championship series. The second Ivy League match, to determine this year's Ivy champion, is next week against Dartmouth.

During the first half, Brown immediately set the tone, when co-captain loosehead Henrique Gabriel scored the match's first try 3 minutes in on a powerful pick and go carry on the goalline. Wing Theo Romero boosted the scoring early, completing a hat trick of tries within the game's first 30 minutes. Wing Marco Lapierre and outisde center Tito Edjua also contributed tries in the first half, with Edjua adding conversions on all 6, and ending the half with a remarkable lead of 42-0.

In the second half, the Bears exceeded that torrid scoring pace, adding another 10 tries and 6 conversions. Lapierre and Edjua each scored twice in the half to complete hat tricks of their own; giving Brown a hat trick of hat tricks. Finley Brown (2), Leo Clayburgh, Charm Tuala, and Cameron McAlpine all touched it down in the second. In total, Edjua excelled in conversions, successfully kicking 12 out of 15 attempts. Brown was awarded a 7-point penalty try in the 60th minute when number 8 Matthew Schwab was illegally stopped from scoring by a Harvard defender who had not retreated the required 10 meters from a free kick awarded to Brown at a scrum near the Harvard goalline.

The Brown forward pack was astoundingly effective, winning 11 penalties from 16 scrums, showing their dominance at critical points of the game. This superiority played a significant role in their commanding victory. Following this impressive win, the team's record remains unbeaten at 4-0 in the season.

Looking ahead, Brown is set to face Dartmouth College on October 4, 2025, at Brophy Field in Hanover, New Hampshire. In that match, the Bears will be looking to extend their streak of consecutive Ivy League titles to 5. Head Coach David Laflamme emphasized the importance of the upcoming match,

"At the start of the preseason, we always lay out our team goals; Ivy's, Liberty, Nationals. With this win against Harvard, we've set ourselves up to once again contend for the Ivy League championship up at Dartmouth next week. They've had an impressive start to their season so far, so we know it's going to be a highly competitive match."

Brown and Dartmouth will each field 3 sides on what will surely be a memorable day of rugby in this long rivalry. The schedule of matches is as follows:
Saturday, October 4th, 2025 at the Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse
1pm - Brown A vs Dartmouth A on Brophy Field
