Brown Men's Rugby Brave in Exhibition Defeat Against Army West Point
In a spirited scrimmage at Anderson Rugby Complex along the scenic Hudson River on the historic campus of the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY on August 31, 2024, Brown Men's Rugby faced a challenging match against the physical and formidable Army Black Knights, concluding with an 18-5 loss. The match, characterized by warm, misty weather, proved to be a test of resilience for the Brown Bears. Despite trailing 18-0 at halftime, Brown showcased a robust performance in the second half. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match, flanker Rowe Stodolnic '27 broke off a powerful pick and go carry over and through Army's defenses to score a try, getting the Bears on the board and marking a significant moment in Brown's surging comeback efforts late in the second half. The strong finish, however, was not enough to bridge the gap created in the first half. Reflecting on the game, the spotlight also falls on the resilience and tactical adjustments made by the Bears after halftime. Brown's ability to pressure their opponents in the latter half of the game paints a picture of a team with potential and tenacity. Looking ahead, Brown Men's Rugby will face the Siena College Saints on September 7, 2024, in Albany, NY. The upcoming fixture is a rematch of last season's Liberty Conference Championship match, a true test to launch the fall 2024 season.
