Brown B's Dominates Harvard With a Decisive Victory at Mignone Stadium
In an impressive display of skill and determination, Brown Men’s Rugby clinched a shutout victory against the Harvard Crimson B-side with a final score of 76-0 on September 20, 2024, at Mignone Stadium.
The B-side match, characterized by cool and windy conditions, saw Brown maintain a robust lead with a halftime score of 43, ultimately preventing Harvard from scoring throughout the game. Brown’s victory was spearheaded by multiple players including Kenyon Graham, Malcolm Grant, and Craig Michalowski, each scoring two tries. Additional tries were contributed by Carlos Ponce de Leon, Joe Al-Hasso, Jack Elliott, James Horkan, Toby Achleitner, and Om Sagar, showcasing the depth and versatility of the team.
Conversions were successfully added by Malcolm Grant (5), Tito Edjua, Kenyon Graham, and Om Sagar, enhancing the team's substantial lead. Despite facing a series of penalties that put them defensively under pressure late in the match, the Brown players were resiliently able to regain their discipline and focus. Their effort was enough to not only keep Harvard off the board but also to score on the last play of the match, emphasizing their defensive prowess.
Reflecting on his performance, Om Sagar shared,
"It was great to be able to give the team a physical boost coming in off the bench with the 'Bomb Squad.' I wanted to play with a lot of energy and make the most of my opportunities. When I got the ball in close I knew I had to beat my man and score. Might be the last conversion I kick in a match, but I slotted that nicely as well."
Coach Ryan Grant also commented on the team's performance,
"We know our group can score and I'm incredibly proud of their defensive effort to keep a 0 on the other side of the scoreboard. I would have liked if we didn't put ourselves under so much pressure late, it felt like the field was tilting in Harvard's favor a bit, but in the end the boys did just enough to earn the shutout and we've got more to work on heading into what will surely be a physical battle against Iona next week."
The buzzing B's, now with a 3-0 record, look forward to their next confrontation on September 20, 2024, at Marvel Field, Brown University, Providence, RI, where they will face Iona University.
