In a display of tenacity and skill, the Brown Men's Rugby team tackled adverse weather conditions to put on a commendable performance at the Monumental 7s Tournament held on April 5th and 6th, 2025, at the Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Quincy, MA.

Contending with cold and rainy weather, Brown Men's Rugby saw multiple players contributing crucial plays throughout the tournament. Malcolm Grant led the charge by scoring 4 tries, followed closely by Raphael Lansonneur and David Scott, who each bagged 3 tries. Lansonneur also managed to successfully convert 7 kicks, adding significantly to the team's points tally. Other notable scorers included Antonio Esteves and Toby Achleitner with 2 tries each, while Henrique Gabriel, Kaspar Pitblado, Rowe Stodolnic, Theo Romero, and Erik Estienne each added one to their names.

Brown roster for Monumental 7s: Toby Achleitner, Thomas Bouchard, Antonio Esteves, Erik Estienne, Henrique Gabriel, Kenyon Graham, Malcolm Grant, Raphael Lansonneur, Garett Mann, Jimmy Phelan, Kaspar Pitblado, Theo Romero, David Scott, Rowe Stodolnic, and Charm Tuala

The Bears performed admirably throughout the tournament, holding their opponents scoreless through their first four matches. In all, the Bears scored 130 points while allowing only 24, which was good for a 4-1 tournament record. The team's only defeat came in the tournament semifinal match against reigning tournament champions and perennial national championship contenders Kutztown University, who scored late to force overtime and ultimately came out on top, scoring in the final minute of the overtime period.

Match-by-match results:
Game 1 - Brown vs Babson - Brown won 31-0
Game 2 - Brown vs Endicott - Brown won 46-0
Game 3 - Brown vs Northeastern - Brown won 29-0
Quarterfinal - Brown vs Virginia Tech - Brown won 5-0
Semifinal - Brown vs Kutztown - Kutztown won 24-19 in Overtime
Defending tournament champions Kutztown would go on to defeat Dartmouth 31-14 in the final.

A pivotal moment in the tournament came during the quarterfinal match against Virginia Tech, where Brown demonstrated 'incredible defense' to secure a win and move forward in the tournament's playoff bracket. According to Coach David Laflamme, although the team was missing some key players, those with less experience stepped up remarkably. 'Going into this tournament, we were without some of our key sevens players, but guys stepped up and we got significant contributions from guys with less experience competing at this level,' Laflamme explained.

The contributions of David Scott G'25 and Malcolm Grant '27, making his A-side debut, did not go unnoticed as both were recognized by the team captains as players of the tournament for their standout performances. The team is now preparing for their next challenge at the Stags 7's Tournament at Fairfield University on April 12th, 2025, where they hope to build on their current form against some of the top teams in the country.
