St. Edward JV Hoops Overcome St. Vincent-St. Mary in Nail-Biting Contest
In a gripping showdown at St. Edward High School, the JV basketball Eagles clinched a hard-fought victory against the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish with a final score of 51-46 on December 30, 2024.
The game saw the Eagles leading at halftime by a score of 35-27, courtesy of a 21-point explosive performance in the second quarter. Despite a challenging third quarter where the Eagles only managed to score 4 points, they regained their composure and closed the game with clutch performances in the final moments.
Dustin Hess led the scoring for the Eagles with 13 points, including three crucial free throws that sealed the win. Other significant contributors included Owen McGurer and Kellen Juliana, each adding 8 points. Juliana was notably physical on the boards and in hustling for 50/50 balls, while Brendan Ansberry's aggressive defense and rim finishes highlighted the defensive efforts needed to secure the win.
Assistant Coach Scarpitti expressed mixed feelings about his team's aggressiveness but praised their finish, stating,
"It's always better to learn from a tough victory rather than from a loss. We could have played more aggressively today, but we loved how the guys finished."
Looking forward, the Eagles are set to host their rival St. Ignatius at home on January 3, 2025, hoping to extend their impressive 8-1 season record. Time to show up and show out, Eagle Nation!
