Regina High's Varsity Field Hockey Faces Challenging Home Opener Against Sacred Heart

Story Image

In an eventful season opener at Regina High School, the varsity field hockey team faced off against the Academy of the Sacred Heart Gazelles on August 28, 2024. Despite a spirited effort, Regina fell to Sacred Heart with a final score of 9-2.

The game began with a strong push from the Gazelles, who managed to secure a significant 7-1 lead by halftime. Regina, however, remained determined. Lily McIntyre and Gabby DiNello each scored a goal for Regina, contributing to the final tally of 2 for their team. DiNello's performance was especially notable, both for her speed in bringing the ball up the field and her effectiveness in teamwork.

"Today feels really good despite the loss. We brought the ball up way faster today. We worked together as a team and we put two shots in,"

DiNello said after the game. Other strong performances included Jeneveve Lewis at midfield with strong hits helping in the transition, and our goalie Antonia Dawson who shows great potential in her first year as varsity goalie.

Looking forward, Regina High School is set to face Ann Arbor Greenhills in Ann Arbor on August 29, 2024. With lessons learned from this challenging opener, the team is optimistic about their next performance.
