Regina High School Varsity Volleyball Secures Decisive Victory Over Cranbrook
In a show of dominance, Regina High School's varsity volleyball team began their CHSL division play with an impressive win against Cranbrook, sweeping the match with a 3-0 score on September 4, 2024, at Cranbrook Kingswood. The first set saw Regina overpower Cranbrook with a score of 25-11, setting the tone for the rest of the contest. Subsequent sets were closely contested, but Regina maintained control, winning 25-18 and 25-19 in the second and third sets respectively.
Key performances were plenty from Regina's lineup. Amanda Vushaj led the charge with a remarkable 14 kills, followed by Cal Mastry and Marisa Vushaj who contributed 6 and 5 kills, respectively. Defensively, Marisa Vushaj also topped the blocks chart, ensuring 3 for Regina, while Amanda Vushaj added 2 blocks alongside Sara Wilking. The team also showcased strong backcourt action, with Ella Sikorski leading in digs with 11, complemented by 9 from Ava Janusch and 8 from Cal Mastry.
Sara Wilking played a pivotal role in setting up attacks, distributing 17 assists throughout the match. Serving also proved effective for Regina, highlighted by 2 aces each from Ella Sikorski, Cat Jenkins, and Cal Mastry.
Looking ahead, all three of Regina's levels are set to play in the Program Cup at the UWM Sports Complex on September 7, 2024. Buoyed by their current undefeated status of 1-0 in the CHSL Division, the team's spirits are high as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
