In an electrifying CHSL semifinal on October 8, 2024, Regina High School's varsity volleyball team secured a hard-fought victory over Divine Child, winning the contest 3-2 at Orchard Lake St. Mary's.

From the outset, the match was a rollercoaster of emotions with Regina initially losing the first set 14-25, only to make a remarkable comeback in the following sets. The second set became a highlight of the night, ending with an extraordinary 37-35 score in Regina's favor. This set was a true test of resilience and determination, as Ava Janusch noted,

"The second set was really stressful. The amount we effort put in to just that set was insane. We never gave up and that's what volleyball's all about. I was sitting on the bench because we actually ran out of subs, I was stressed, but honestly I had all the faith in the girls on the court. They knew they had to get it done and they did."

Despite losing the third set 21-25, Regina rallied back to dominate the fourth set 25-16 and narrowly edged out the fifth set 15-13. Ava Janusch’s crucial serves and focused performance under pressure were pivotal in these critical moments, especially when Regina trailed 9-13 in the final set. Her determination encapsulated the team's spirit,

"I wasn't even looking at where Pops was telling me to serve; I knew I just needed to get it over the net and keep us going,"

she remarked after the match.

The match also showcased outstanding individual performances with Calista Mastry leading the team with 21 kills. Contributions came from all areas, including Lilly Zdankiewicz and Marisa Vushaj, who were formidable at the net. The defensive efforts were led by Ella Sikorski with an impressive 25 digs. Sara Wilking also delivered 21 assists.

Looking ahead, Regina is set to face Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the CHSL AA Championship on October 10 at 5:30 PM at Eastern Michigan University. With their sights set on victory, Ava Janusch commented on the upcoming challenge,

"We've played them earlier this season. It was competitive, but if we minimize our errors and play with the same effort as the last set yesterday, we can definitely win."

This win not only advances Regina to the finals but also solidifies their reputation as a formidable force for the post-season ahead, demonstrating their ability to overcome adversity and succeed under pressure.
