Holy Name Green Wave Wins in OHSAA Regional Semifinal Against Perry Pirates
In a striking display of skill and teamwork, the Holy Name Green Wave girls varsity volleyball team secured a victory over the Perry Pirates during the OHSAA Regional Semifinal yesterday, October 29, 2025, at Alliance High School. The Green Wave clinched the match with a final score of 3-1, propelling them into the elite 8 for the second straight year.
The match started strongly for Holy Name, as they dominated the first set with a decisive 25-14 win, followed by a similarly commanding performance in the second set, ending at 25-13. Despite a setback in the third set, where they fell to Perry with a close 25-23 score, the Green Wave showcased their resilience and tactical prowess to take the fourth set 25-22, coming back from as much as 8 points to seal their victory.
The standout performers were junior Allison Orzech, who led the team with an impressive 22 kills, and junior Avery Preisel, who orchestrated the plays with 46 assists. Notably, junior Hayden Wells significantly contributed to the defense with a remarkable 37 digs. The serving was also a high point, with senior Cindy Viera, Wells, and Preisel each getting 2 aces.
Coach Bojan Miocinovic expressed pride in his team’s performance. 'Very proud of our girls getting off to a quick start and playing at a high level early and then being able to showcase their mental toughness and grit when Perry came on strong which carried us to the win,' Miociniovic said.
Looking forward, the Green Wave will face Marlington at Alliance HS this Saturday at 2pm as they continue their pursuit for the state title. The team remains focused and prepared to maintain their winning form in the forthcoming challenges.
