Holy Name Green Wave Clinches District Final Victory in Straight Sets Over Woodridge
In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, the Holy Name Green Wave emerged victorious in the District Final volleyball contest, securing a straight-set win against the Woodridge Bulldogs on Saturday October 26th at Mentor High School. The victory solidified the Green Wave's dominance in the tournament, showcasing their prowess across three intense sets.
The match kicked off with Holy Name narrowly clinching the first set 25-22, setting the tone for the rest of the contest. They maintained this momentum in the second set with a 25-20 win and wrapped up their victory decisively in the third set, outscoring Woodridge 25-15. Allison Orzech and Jennevieve Afrates led the charge, contributing significantly with 14 and 12 kills respectively.
The defensive efforts were equally commendable. Hayden Wells played a crucial role with 12 digs, protecting against the Bulldogs' advances. Serving also proved a strong point for Holy Name as Avery Preisel led with six aces, while both Cassie Bower and Lillian Jurec supported admirably with three aces each. Cassie Bower rounded out her stellar performance facilitating plays with 27 assists.
Coach Miocinovoc praised the team's performance, stating,
"It was a great win for the girls. It was one of our goals this season and we look forward to keep playing at a high level."
His comments reflect the high spirits and confidence brimming within the team as they anticipate their upcoming challenge against Norton at Alliance H.S. this Thursday October 31st, at 8pm.
