Union Grove High School Broncos Face Setback Against Case Eagles in Non-Conference Basketball Clash
In a thrilling varsity basketball game on December 27, 2025, the Union Grove High School Broncos faced off against the Case Eagles at Carthage College. Despite a vigorous comeback attempt in the second half, the Broncos fell short with a final score of 59-71.
The first half concluded with the Broncos trailing by 16 points, a challenging halftime score of 21-37. The deficit widened to 21 points early in the second half when the score hit 23-44. However, the Broncos orchestrated a remarkable 15-0 run over five minutes, reducing the gap to just six points with 11:27 left on the clock. This burst of momentum brought them within three points at 7:44 remaining.
Tyler Johnson emerged as the leading scorer with 17 points, while also securing 8 rebounds and contributing significantly on defense with 3 blocks. Colten Tajnai, not only scored 13 points but also led the team in assists with 4 and matched Johnson's effort on the defensive end with 3 blocks.
Despite their valiant efforts, every time the Broncos closed the gap, the Eagles responded with critical shots to maintain their lead. Coach Roettgen reflected on the team's resilience, praising their competitive spirit in fighting back into the game but acknowledged the impact of the Eagles' timely scoring.
