Bay Village, April 16, 2025 - The girls' varsity track and field team of Bay High School faced a competitive dual meet on their home turf against the Westlake Demons, marking a spirited start to their season. Despite a challenging day with a team score of Westlake 69, Bay Village 55, the Rockets showcased commendable performances and individual victories.

On a crisp and sunny day, Bay High's athletes demonstrated exceptional talent, particularly in the running and racing events. Freshman Alex Linsenmeyer shone brightly, achieving her first individual win with a personal record (PR) of 12.9 seconds in the 100 meters. The team also celebrated first place finishes in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays with contributions from Jaiden Latimer-Smith, Ruby Render, Mckenna Adkins, Birdie Kreuger, and Annie Willmitch. The hurdles saw Ainsley Scheid and Mckenna Adkins securing second and third places in both the 100 and 300 meters, while Ruby Render and Evin Mason added to the score with their performances in the 200 and 400 meters respectively. In the field events, Riley Mitchell led the Rockets by winning the Discus and Shot Put, setting a new career personal record in the latter. Other notable achievements came from Chloe Pyros, Leila Ghaffari, and Banning Gallagher in the throwing events, with the team nearly sweeping all points in these categories.

Senior Sophie Gadd triumphed in the High Jump, and newcomers Gigi Waters and Jane Fanter earned their first varsity points in the Pole Vault. The day concluded with a unique combined co-ed 4x400 relay, a key moment that wrapped up the meet. Birdie Kreuger, reflecting on this mixed team relay, expressed delight,

"I never thought I'd run on a team with Kieran and Max, so that was a fun way to end the day!"

Coach Knaack praised the team's performance, stating,

"A lot of personal bests set today. Overall a great meet and always fun to compete against our neighbors to the south!"

The Rockets are already preparing for their next challenge at the home venue, the Rocket Invitational, scheduled for April 19, 2025.
