Rockets Excel at Austintown Fitch Regional Championship

The Bay High School Rockets delivered impressive performances at the Austintown Fitch Regional Championship held in Austintown on May 31, 2025. The event showcased a series of standout moments from several athletes who will proceed to compete in further prestigious competitions.
Michael Hanselman is your regional champion running a beautifully well executed race! Michael had a plan going in and followed that plan to perfection - coming through the halfway point in 4:56 with the lead pack and taking it to them in the second half of the race to come home in a 4:37 negative split win! Very impressive Michael, looking forward to next week in Columbus!
Jayden Perrine had a fantastic runner-up finish in a LOADED field of top 100m runners from the area! Proving his strength in the field Jayden out muscled the competition in a strong head wind to grab a top spot next week in the event. The gap between 1st to 8th was just .33 of a second and Jayden showed he will be one to deal with next week in Columbus!
Elliot Trefz had a stellar day in the Pole Vault taking 8th place and clearing 11'6" in the process. Awesome job Elliot - way to close out the season with a bang!
Max Fischer nearly ran his best time of the year in the 110m hurdles and closed out a great season in the event. Max showed continuous and significant improvement in the event all year and we are very excited to see how far Max can take it next year!
Kieran Ripley closed out a wonderful junior year campaign in a VERY FAST field of 1600m runners. Kieran has earned the nickname of
"Range Rover"
with his very impressive times in the 800m, 1600m AND the 3200m! When Kieran shows up to the starting line it does not matter the distance, he's going to be competing for the win! Fantastic season Kieran!
The 4x800m team of Michael Hanselman, Brennen Lyons, Liam Jager and Kieran Ripley ran well but fell short of their goal to return to the state championship. This squad battled all season long and had a great season for our team! Nice job this year boys!
The 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams of - Cooper Brauxes, Colin McAlea, Max Fischer, Ben Kamm and Jayden Perrine saw a very successful season in the sprint relays come to a close. While we will miss Cooper next year - this group of juniors is excited to see what the future holds.
The Rockets are now setting their sights on the upcoming OHSAA State Track and Field Championship in Columbus on June 7, 2025, with high hopes for continued excellence.
