Barons Fall to Crusaders in SSAC Tournament

In a thrilling postseason showdown on May 2-3, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Barons women's softball team faced a narrow defeat against the William Carey Crusaders, with a final score of 4-5 in Decatur, Ala. Despite the loss, the Barons move to the losers' side of the bracket and aim to keep their postseason alive.
Lexi Bradshaw and Shelby Aiken were pivotal in scoring runs for Brewton-Parker, with Bradshaw scoring twice and Aiken adding another run. Kaci Paul also contributed with a crucial run. Key plays included Abbey Flowers, Morgan Willingham, and Aiken, who each recorded RBIs, adding depth to the team's scoring potential. Kaylee Odum took the mound as the starting pitcher, showcasing a commendable performance throughout the game. The Barons trailed after the first inning and fell behind 3-0 after the second. The Barons scratched their first run across in the fourth, second run in the fifth, and managed to take the lead in the seventh inning after scoring twice. Unfortunately for the Barons, after taking the momentum and gaining the lead, weather delays prevented the game from being completed. After pushing the game to the next day to complete the bottom of the ninth, the Barons were unable to prevent the Barons from scoring twice to take the game.
As the team prepares for their next challenge against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on May 4, they hold a season record of 20 wins, 25 losses, and one tie. The Barons remain in Decatur, Ala., focused on redeeming their narrow loss and pushing further in the postseason tournament.
